I think I am starting to agree with John Edwards, there are two Americas. One America is occupied by folks who operate in reality (this is where most conservatives, independents, and the politically uninterested live). There is another America, however, an America that can be best described as Bizzaro World. In Bizarro World, up is down, right is wrong, wet is dry and everything a conservative says or done can be used to prove he or she is a bigot, homophobe, hater, etc. This America is populated almost exclusively by the deranged left.
According to crazed left wing activists, Mr. Cain – whose campaign for President is surging – went on to The View today and said he 1 – supported re-instating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell; 2 – that he believed that homosexuality was unequivocally a “choice” and 3 – that he generally hates “the dirty queers.”
First, Cain never said on The View that he wanted to re-instate the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. Indeed, he didn’t respond to the question about it at all. Mr. Cain’s position on DADT is well known, since he answered it in a debate months ago – and the answer he gave made it clear he would NOT reinstate DADT:
Q: Now gays are allowed to serve openly in the military; would you leave that policy in place or would you try to change it back to “don’t ask/don’t tell”?
CAIN: If I had my druthers, I never would have overturned “don’t ask/don’t tell” in the first place. Now that they have changed it, I wouldn’t create a distraction trying to turn it over as president. Our men and women have too many other things to be concerned about rather than have to deal with that as a distraction.
Second, Cain specifically says on The View that he hasn’t seen enough scientific evidence to prove that homosexuality isn’t a choice and he admits that others have drawn different conclusions.
Finally, far from attacking gay people, Mr. Cain has made it clear that he is willing to be a President for all Americans – including gay people. Mr. Cain does not support a federal marriage amendment, will not reinstate Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, supports policies like the Fair Tax, free market healthcare reform and social security personal savings accounts – all of which would benefit gay and lesbian Americans.
Back in June I wrote about the left, and in particular the gay left’s reaction to Cain:
For the gay left none of this will matter. All that matters is the group hug. For the gay left, it isn’t important whether the policies pursued by a candidate or a party actually improve the lives of gay people, all that matters is that they get the pat on the head – the assurance that they are ok. I don’t need the group hug, nor do I need affirmation from the government that I am ok. What I need is a President and a Congress that will pursue policies that will make life better for me and my family.
It is time the gay community put real policy before emotional theater, and that is exactly why gay people should be willing to listen to and consider the candidacy of Herman Cain.
For the gay folks not living in the left wing Bizzaro world they should know – a Herman Cain Presidency would be a dramatic improvement in their everyday lives.
Ask your gay-loathing friend Herman if he can remember the day he chose to be straight.
Auntie Dogma…he isn’t gay loathing. It’s a matter of his personal faith. He takes the Christian stance on homosexuality, but he doesn’t loathe them. He also said on The View today that his personal beliefs wouldn’t dictate how he governs, but The Constitution would
It is always the extreme with people like Auntie Dogman that is ridiculous. Just because someone thinks that I “choose” to be gay (which is an absurd opinion) doesn’t mean that they “hate” me. The word “hate” is so over-used these days by the Gay Left that it’s real significance is lost. If someone wants to prevent me from marrying another man, that does not mean that that person “hates” me, it is just their opinion, they are wishing no harm on me. Hate is when you fly planes into buildings to kill innocent people, strap dynamite on your body and blow up a bus to kill Jews, or when you put an IED along side the road to kill those who would bring you peace. Now, that is real hate – someone who wants you dead.
That said, I will take Herman Cain to defend my personal freedom any day over the charlatan in the WH who pretends to be my advocate, but has no courage of his convictions, if he has any convictions at all.
Refreshing!

Insightful and clear headed as always, Chris. Ever think of running for office yourself?
@Ambival – Thanks
And I think I make a better consultant than a candidate…
I’m confused, you said he doesn’t support a federal marriage amendment, but the “On the Issues” link you posted has this quote.
“A constitutional amendment is needed to protect the definition of marriage as the legal union of one man and one woman.”
That sounds like a federal marriage amendment, but I could be wrong.
Policy is nothing, if the leader is weak or incompetent or both; that’s all GOP has offered to America.
John McCain bottom of his class at Naval Academy, for example.
Here’s a simple way to judge competence and what we need in a leader:
not so bizarre when it’s about your money
REAGAN, BUSH, OBAMA ALL HAD RECESSIONS TO DEAL WITH DURING
THEIR FIRST TWO YEARS IN OFFICE. THIS IS HOW YOU COMPARE COMPETENCE.
Look at the first two years in office and check performance of DJIA:
Reagan—DJIA UP 8&
Bush——DJIA DOWN 23%
Obama—DJIA UP——————32%
IT’S YOUR MONEY—WHICH PRESIDENT DID THE BEST JOB AND WHO DO YOU
WANT TO HANDLE YOUR MONEY?
BY GROWTH IN DJIA, (OR YOUR MONEY), JOB CREATION OR RISE IN DEBT/DEFICT
OBAMA IS THE BEST PRESIDENT.

Gov. Palin won’t run — Palin for president in 2016…
I was dismayed, but not very surprised, last night when I heard that Gov. Palin announced she has decided not to run for president in this election cycle. I was hoping she was hanging back to let the field thin out. Allahpundit at Hot Air says it……
