I am not suggesting that you have not looked into all the details of Ron Paul's foeign policy, but it has been grossly misrepresented by the press. He is in no way an isolationist. That would be like calling Gandhi a loner or a xenophobe. Paul prefers expanded trade to expanded military presence. Period. Also, he thinks Iran and/or North Korea, are not economically capable of waging war against the rest of the world. He is for free trade but not NATO brokered world government trade deals arbitrated by international tribunals. Besides those stances, he is pretty mainstream. Food for thought.

Thanks Christopher, for this wonderful write up. Your words echo much of what has been in my heart these past few years regarding the direction of the Republican party, which has abandoned any sense of principle in the name of winning.

I've been a GJ supporter for nearly 2 years now myself, since the first time I met him and then saw him speak at my state's GOP Spring Convention in 2011. Finally, I saw someone who did not just speak the language of smaller, limited government, but who had actually backed his words with action, as his 750 vetoes in 8 years as NM governor demonstrated. And, unlike Romney's supposed "800" vetoes, these were not single line items, but entire pieces of legislation that would have expanded government power.

As it happens, Cain was my #2 choice behind Johnson, as he was he only other guy who saw that our tax code is beyond repair, and needs to be completely thrown onto the scrap heap in favor of a fairer, easier to understand code that puts an end to the IRS's routine abuses of taxpayers and their constitutionally guaranteed rights.

Thanks for putting the word out there about Gov. Johnson, and I hope more people will stand up for principle and send a message loud and clear to our broken two-party duopoly in DC that we will not sit back and accept whatever garbage they serve us. The parties are supposed to exist for the people who make them up, and to promote the ideologies of the rank and file. Instead, much like everything else in DC, they exist only for the enrichment of those who put themselves in the seat of "power."

For most people, supporting Gary should be easier than agonizing over the lesser of two evils.

I live in Washington State - a state so "blue" it's a foregone conclusion that its 12 electors will be pledged to Obama. That means my vote is not going to affect the outcome of the election. Indeed, if the (R) wins Washington, it will portend such a massive sweep for the Republicans that - again - my vote won't matter.

If you live in Atlanta, Georgia, that state is so reliably "Red," that it's a foregone conclusion its electors will be pledged to the (R) candidate. Indeed, if Obama carries Georgia, then - again - we will be witnessing a Democratic victory of such gigantic proportions, that your vote won't matter.

This is true for all Americans. The odds of your vote making any difference is lower than your chances of winning the next powerball lottery. Voting for Al Gore didn't matter. Voting for John McCain didn't matter. Given that, there is an absurdity to voting for anyone other than the person whose policies you truly want to endorse.

Politics is not about this year's election cycle. The civil rights movement was not about any particular election cycle. Starting - or ending - prohibition wasn't about one election cycle. Same-sex marriage, gender equality, ending the War in Afghanistan and the wars to come - none of these things happens because of what transpires in any one election cycle.

To matter in American politics, you have to have millions of votes, and before you get millions of votes, you have to get hundreds of thousands, and before that, thousands, and before an idea has thousands of supporters, it needs hundreds of supporters. Politics is the long-term project of building solid majorities behind ideas. That involves educating people over many, many elections and in between elections. You can't do that well if every election cycle, you throw away your vote identifying the lesser of evils.

You can start building the majorities needed to change policies this year, by voting for who represents your ideas, or you can start next year, or in twenty years. But, the sooner you start, the sooner the ideas you support will garner the large majorities needed to actually affect public policy.

Once you wise up, and abandon the idea that your vote this year translates directly into changed public policy next year, it's as easy as pie to vote for, and support, people who espouse the ideas you want to promote.

If you want to re-distribute wealth so as to make everyone equal, join the Democrats. If you want a government intrusive enough to assure the world is safe for big business, throw in with Republicans. If you want to promote the idea of spreading liberty, and shrinking the size, power, and expense of government, then start working with the Libertarians. It's kind of just that simple. The sooner you start, the sooner the ideas you are working to promote will come to guide America.

Bravo - while I cannot support Mr. Johnson for his stance on drugs (well, OK, I could but he won't be nominated by the Republicans and there is no other way for him to win), I applaud your convictions. No wonder you have never held elective office.
